Applying for a Job Within the Casino Industry

Career Wizardry 24 April, 2019

The casino industry literally revolves around money. More importantly, around taking people's money in exchange for making them think they might win a bunch in return. It's a very exciting industry because from time to time, some people do hit big jackpots. If you want to work in the casino industry, you'll have plenty of career paths to choose from.

You'll also have plenty of requirements to meet. Important to note is that the minimum working requirements differ from one casino to the next, however, here are some basic guidelines that apply to most casino jobs.

You Must Be 18-Years-Old

Regardless of the position and the casino, you must be at least 18 years of age. Depending on the exact casino and position, you may need to be 21-years-old.

You Need a High School Education

You'll need a high school education or GED to secure employment through a casino. Some positions require special skill sets, as well. Take for example you want to be a blackjack dealer. If so, many casinos require you to receive certification through a gaming/dealing school. If you want to secure a senior-level position, such as a Gaming Manager, then you'll need a minimum of a bachelor's degree in business. Some casinos also prefer Gaming Managers with degrees in finance or hospitality.

You Have to Pass a Background Check

When working at a casino, you're going to be around a lot of money. This is why you must pass a background check to work at a casino. If you have a felony on your record, you will need to seek employment elsewhere. A history of drug abuse will also bar you from securing employment through a casino.

You Need a Gaming License

Lastly, to work in a casino, you must get a gaming license; this applies even if you aren't working out on the floor. To get a gaming license, you must fill out the proper paperwork, provide a photo ID, and a pay a fee. Passing a background check is part of the process you'll go through to get your gaming license.

Working in a casino is, no doubt, exciting. As you can see, though, you'll need to meet several minimum requirements to start a career in the casino industry.
